The people of Vernonia love to come together for a good celebration, and what is better to celebrate than our Independence Day! The Intercultural Society of Vernonia has been hosting this city-wide celebration for years, but by far, 2020 was a wonderful celebration!!!

Families and friends from far and near came to join in the festivities, and your generous support made it possible to have a FREE event for the community.

And the community came in numbers!

Following the 4th of July parade, we hosted two groups of live entertainment: local Sarah McMahon came and sang for the crowds, wowing them with her music. (You can catch more of her @sarahmcmahonmusic) The crowds also enjoyed some lively tunes from Sal and the Salamandars, with the kids joining in the dancing as dusk came on.

The celebration had raffles, and vendors selling food and fun items, and the kids got to play in the Kid’s Corner, full of activities and bouncy house structures!

We tried a water Splash N’ Play area, but sadly due to low water pressure/flow, we didn’t have too many working sprinklers….but the water was still appreciated, and kids came out happy and wet on the warm day!

The whole event would not have been quite the event without the child and adult relay games!!! Men, women, boys and girls competed in the 3-legged race, the water balloon toss, and teams of four adults joined together to do the 5 stage relay competition – the most fun, and funniest part of the whole day!!!! Prizes, laughter, and lots of fun were to be had!!!!

The evening ended at dusk as all the families pulled out their sweaters, and hunkered under blankets under the stars to enjoy the most amazing display of fireworks this side of the Rockies!!! A huge thank you to our local Fire Department, who sponsors and throws the amazing display every year!!!
